HISTORIC COVENTRY TRUST MI

Our speaker Elizabeth Yardley will tonight tell us about the work of Historic Coventry Trust. This will include a power point presentation highlighting the various historic landmarks in and around Coventry- such as the Charterhouse, Paxton’s Arboretum, the historic high streets of The Burges and Hales Street, the city gates, Lady Herbert’s Garden and Drapers Hall. So there’s plenty of subject matter to keep you interested.

FRIDAY 15TH MAY

THE NO 8 INNER CIRCLE TOUR MI

We welcome the return of David and Pam Humphries who previously took us on a very interesting a tour of the outer circle of Birmingham. So tonight they are taking us on a virtual tour of the Birmingham No8 inner circle, highlighting all the interesting places and history of the area. So sit back and enjoy the ride.

WEDNESDAY 20th MAY

LORD LEYCESTER HOSPITAL TOUR, WARWICK. BC

We are booked in for a tour at 12.30pm. Tea/coffee and cake can be purchased from the in-house cafe after the tour. You will need to make your own way to the hospital but please note there is no parking provided. It is suggested  you use the X17 or X18 bus from outside the Transport Museum. If you are interested in this tour which costs £12 payable to Bob Clemons please put your name on the list by 8th May as it must be paid for prior to our visit.

 

FRIDAY 22ND MAY

THE LIFE AND CRIMES OF AGATHA CHRISTIE MH

Steve Dimmer examines the writers life beginning with the life of Hercule Poirot in 1920, through to the golden age of detective fiction, the emergence of Miss Marple until Agatha Christie became the indisputable ‘Queen of Crime’
Along the way, we will be looking at the real life mystery involving the novelists actual disappearance and perhaps try to solve this intriguing puzzle.


 

WEDNESDAY 27th MAY

WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION BC

AT PRIORY THEATRE, KENILWORTH at 7.00 FOR 7.30

Leonard Vale stands accused of murdering a rich widow. The stakes are high with shocking witness testimony. Regarded as one of Agatha Christie's most accomplished plays, this thriller keeps you guessing until the very end. Tickets are £15 payable by 8th May to Bob Clemons.

FRIDAY 29TH MAY

WHEN THE LANDSHIPS CAME TO TOWN CJ

This illustrated talk is about the incredible story of the 'Tank Banks' which aimed to raise as much money for the war effort through investments in War Bonds and War Savings Certificates. This talk by Helen Frost will take us on a whirlwind journey, as we hear about the excitement the tanks whipped up as they visited towns and cities all over the country. The atmosphere of 'tank fever' will be recreated with the assistance of vivid contemporary accounts and music.

THE HISTORY OF LAUNDRY MI

Jane Arnold has entertained us at Greyfriars many times before, from wartime food, Roman food, the history of wool and many more. No doubt she will bring many props with her to illustrate this talk on the basic task of laundry. This

should be a very entertaining evening.

 

FRIDAY 19TH JUNE

LIVING THROUGH THE COVENTRY BLITZ -OLGA STEW MH

Olga Stew was a 9 year old girl in the Coventry Blitz. Chris West brings us a very personal story of his Grandmother’s experiences in Coventry during the Second World War. This talk will bring home to us the reality for children and families living through this period.

 

FRIDAY 26TH JUNE

POETRY EVENING EH/CJ

Poetry ‘To Cheer the Heart,’ is the theme for this evening -nothing offensive or contentious please, just words to make us all feel better. Volunteers, please step forward and let Carol J or Eunice know your choice of poem to make this a happy summer’s evening. We will also be enjoying strawberries and cream tonight.

We shall be holding our Annual Skittles Evening at Brandon Social Club on Friday 11th September, 2026. the cost will be £10 including fish or chicken and chips supper. More information will be given nearer the event, but remember this is open to family and friends too.
